The
History of Nosse Nenharma and the decendants of Ar-Feindir of the Nandor
from both
written history and oral tradition.
Compiled and
translated by Calddir Lenion Nenharma
It has been told the story
of the "Beginning of Days, the "Sundering of the Elves", the "Great March
of the Eldar to Aman" in the History of the Sindar. The known history
of our family begins during the Age of Trees with a seafaring warrior elf
named Ar-Feindir.
"Now it has been told,
one Lenwë of the host of Olwë forsook the march of the eldar
at that time when the Teleri were halted by the shores of the Great River
upon the borders of the westlands of Middle-Earth. Little is known
of the wanderings of the Nandor, whom he led away down Anduin: some, it
is said, dwelt age-long in the woods of the Vale of the Great River, some
came at last to its mouths and there dwelt by the sea, and yet others passing
by Ered Nimrais, the White Mountains, came north again and entered the
wilderness of Eriador between Ered Luin and the far Mountains of Mist......."
-Silmarillion
"....and they passed
out of the knowledge of their kin until long years were past. Those
were the Nandor; and they became a people apart, unlike their kin, save
that they loved water, and dwelt most beside falls and running streams.
Greater knowledge they had of living things, tree and herb, bird and beast,
than all other Elves......." -Silmarillion |
Little is known of Ar-Feindir and his family.
Little was written and that which was put to scroll has been either lost
or destroyed over the years of war and travel. It is known from orated
tale that Ar-Feindir was an elf sire of the Teleri origin, a great warrior
and hunter, and a lifelong friend to the great Lenwë, Lord of the
Nandor. During the Age of Trees, he and many other Teleri answered
the call and joined the great March of the Eldar, However, his friendship
with Lenwë was strong and he thus accompanied Lenwë in the abandonment
of the march upon reaching the Misty Moutains. Ar-Feindir then became
known as Nenharma of Divine Sight and served Lenwë as his Captain
at Arms and aided in the survival of those traveling south along the Great
River Anduin helping to establish the elves to be known to posterity as
the Nandor. As Lenwë was called 'Dan', Ar-Feindir was known
as 'Nen' short for 'Nenharma of Divine Sight' as, it was told, he could
see through stone to find any living creature. Nen settled in the
Lamedon region south of the White Mountains between the rivers Ringlo and
Ciril and lived there till the end of his days.
Ar-Feindir (Nen) was wed to an unknown Elven maiden,
also of the Nandor, and they, with a few others, settled in a secluded
forest between the rivers Ringlo and Ciril, near what is now the township
of Calembel in the Lamedon region of Gondor. They had one son, Melimdir
son of Nenharma and made way as hunter/fishers.
Lenwë also wed and had a son Denethor, son
of Lenwë, Lord of the Nandor. who eventually became Lord of
the Nandor and led a group of Nandor across Ered Luin into Ossiriand, which
was named Lindon, or Land of the Singers, after these elves. They
became known as the Laiquendi or Green Elves.
Such is the story of the elf warrior Ar-Feindir
to be known as Nenharma of Divine Sight of the Nandor.

| Melimdir son of Nenharma and
the First Age of Arda.
It is told that Melimdir son of Nenharma was a
childhood friend of Denethor son of Lenwë. Melimdir spent much
time with his father and was never found without a blade and frequently
in the forest. He was a strong sturdy elf sire and enjoyed physical
activity such as wrestling and swordplay.
While Denethor continued a march west, Melimdir
remained in Lamedon. He wed and begat a son, Lenwë Melion Nenharma,
named for Lenwë Lord of the Nandor and Caldeth Meliel Nenharma.
They lived in the house of his father Nen and enjoyed a peaceful existance
in the forests of Lamedon. One day he recieved an urgent message
from Denethor about a mustering of warriors to fight an Orc uprise.
War was coming and the Elves needed to win else all would be lost.
The
Wars of Belariand had begun.
Morgoth, escaping Valinor, arrives in Middle-earth,
and occupies his old fortress of Angband under the mountains of Thangorodrim
while the Noldor pursuing him still toil through Araman. His servants,
Sauron and Gothmog have long been breeding Orcs as warriors for his armies.
Morgoth decides to move quickly to conquer Beleriand
and he sends out his armies. Two Orc-hosts advance south from Angband.
One moves west through the vale of the River Sirion and the second east
between the rivers Celon and Gelion. The Orcs make camps on the Estolad
plain in the east and the Talath plain in the west and they harry the lands
about. In this first battle, in this first war, that ever any Elves fought,
the Sindar and their allies the Green Elves, the Falathrim and the Dwarves
meet the forces of the Dark Lord in the open field
Both Melimdir and the elder Nenharma answered the
call to war. They organized a small but strong fighting force from
the Elves living in Lamedon and traveled to aid his friend Denethor Lord
of the Nandor, in organizing a defence force with the Laiquendi.
They left Lamedon and traveled east to Ossiriand where they met Denethor
and many other mustered Elven warriors from all over under his command.
Due to the lack of time neccessary to fully equip a strong army, they were
lightly armed but their determination was unwavered. Their Orcish
enemy was met with great force. They fought furvantly side by side
against the overpowering Orcs. Despite an Elvish victory, most of
the force was killed. Denethor, Melimdir, Nenharma and many others
lost their lives at during this First Battle at Amon Ereb during the Wars
of Belariand.
| "In East Beleriand,
Denethor lord of the Nandor, or Green Elves, fights the Eastern Orc-host
on Amon Ereb, an isolated hill south and east of Doriath. Only lightly
armed, they take heavy casualties. Thingol with the army of Doriath arrives
to save the Nandor from annihilation but Denethor and Melimdir fall before
Thingol can save them. The Orcs are defeated and those that survive the
battle are slain in their rout by the Dwarves of Mount Dolmed........" |
Belariand was destroyed in 1-583 and swallowed
by the sea ending the Wars of Belariand and the First age of Arda.
Fortunately, the mate of Melimdir and his children had remained in Lamedon
and survived the conflict.
| "The wreckage of the
war is immense. The River Sirion is destroyed. Much of the north of the
land west of the Ered Luin is laid waste and sinks into the sea. The surviving
Elves of Beleriand are bidden by Ëonwë to return with him to
the lands of Aman. Most of them do so, but others refuse the summons and
instead journey eastward where they become lords of the remaining Noldor
and Sindar, as well as others in the east such as the Silvan Elves. Galadriel
and Celeborn are among these, as was Gil-galad......" |

| Lennwe Melion Nenharma and the
Second Age of Arda.
Towards
the end of the first age, elves began to arrive at a small fishing settlement
at the mouth of the Ringlo River in Gondor. Lennwe was a young sire
very talented in the arts. During the end of the first age, Lennwe
and his mother and sister left the house of Nen and traveled to this small
village to await the arrival of Melimdir and Ar-Feindir (Nen).
Elven ships were arriving frequently, bringing tired warriors and messages
back from the front. Unfortunately, this is how Lennwe discovered
the fate of his father and grandfather. Arriving by ship from Belariand
was a surviving elf with a golden bow. Lennwe recognized this bow
as having belonged to this father. Saddened, he took the bow, all
that remained of his father, and vowed never to abandon the work of the
elves in Middle-Earth and to strive for the continued survival and wise
presence. He and his family did not return to Lamedon and their forest
home, instead joined the many Sindar in the village in developing what
is now known as the Elven township of Edhellond.
| "The Elf haven
and settlement on the Bay of Belfalas. Edhellond was located on the Blackroot
River near the point where it was joined by the Ringlo. The Blackroot then
emptied into Cobas Haven, a small inlet on the Bay of Belfalas. Edhellond
was about 50 miles north of Dol Amroth, also located on Cobas Haven. Edhellond
was in the land of Gondor, but it was under the control of Elves. The site
where Edhellond was founded was originally inhabited by fisher-folk, but
they fled to the White Mountains when the Elves arrived. The Elf haven
was established by Sindarin Elves. There are differing accounts of when
the Elves arrived. They may have come in three ships from Beleriand after
the havens of Brithombar and Eglarest were destroyed by Morgoth's forces
in the year 473 of the First Age.....
The Sindarin Elves were
soon joined by some Silvan Elves, or Wood-elves. These Wood-elves came
down the Anduin from the forests on either side of the Great River called
Greenwood and Lothlorien. They left their forest homes because they longed
for the Sea......" |
Lennwe lived and worked in Edhellond the rest of
his days as a woodcrafter and shipwright. He was an artisan of great
skill and helps create not only the beauty of the township but also many
Elven ships. Eventually, he wed and begat three children, Calddir
Lenion, Twuelle Leniel and Normellic Lenion, all of Edhellond.
